No pictures. Sorry.
We took a bus from Washington, DC to Manhattan. We'd originally planned on renting a car but my sister (and maybe other people?) suggested we take the bus instead. Turned out, we LOVED not having to drive. I was content with my little computer and the bus' WIFI. Mitch was content mostly sleeping. Part way through the ride he woke up and told me he loves buses.
It's kind of exciting to see the New York City skyline for the first time. Our bus dropped us off at Penn Station. The very first thing we did (with our luggage) was go across the street and have our first pieces of New York pizza. Not bad, not bad. After that we walked over to Penn Station to figure out how to get to the Port Authority bus station where we'd be meeting Mitch's cousin, Aubrey.
Penn Station is something else. First of all, it smells like warm yogurt. Second of all, there are like seven thousand people. And third of all, it's like... a million degrees. Also, apparently the tickets that the machine sells don't work. When we were buying our tickets, we followed the instructions on the machine. (We've used other public transportation before... you'd think we know how to do it...) Then we tried using them to go through the turnstile. No go. So we told the lady and she took them, tore them up (imagine our surprise), and told us to just go through the other way. Ooookay.
When we finally got to Port Authority, we went upstairs. Now honestly, calling it a bus station is a serious understatement. Port Authority has the subway, 1,000 shops, and like... probably a million buses. It's insane. We found a place to sit and decided to wait there for Aubrey. And then, when Aubrey got there, she couldn't really find us right away. We knew we must be lost because she told us to wait where we were. People always tell you that when you're lost. It's the lost cliche. I felt like we should find a grown up and tell them we were lost or something.
Aubrey eventually found us (bless her heart) and got us on the right bus home. When we got to their house, we settled in and then went to... some restaurant that Aubrey and her husband, Gabe, really like for these... things that were really, really good. They're kind of like... Hispanic paninis. And by then we were so exhausted that we all sat on the couches watching Wipeout.

I've always wanted to try a New York pizza. I've heard they're really good. :)
I bet seeing the New York skyline for the first time is really something. One thing I really love when flying into Sydney is that we fly right by the Opera House and Harbour Bridge. Really makes an impression :)
New York is a nice city
